Albany Island is one of the best kept secrets of Cape York. Nestled to the East of the very tip of Australia, Albany Island offers the perfect fly fishing retreat. Sandy flats, mangrove systems, island channels and nearby creeks, there is a diversity of fishing opportunity.

TRIP OVERVIEW

The trip offers four (4) days of fly fishing around Albany Island & the Coral Sea based from the Albany Island Lodge and five (5) nights accommodation.

Fishing options include: flats fishing, either by shallow wading or inshore boats; Some of the fish species Golden Trevally, Tea Leaf Trevally, Giant Trevally (GT), Bludger Trevally, Barramundi, Mangrove jack, Long tail (northern bluefin) tuna, Mack tuna, Spanish mackerel, Queenfish, Fingermark, Red emperor, Spanish flag, Barracuda, Threadfin salmon, Numerous Cod species, Coral trout, Nannygai, Cobia... plus plus

Meet Your Host

Nick Reygaert is the founder of Gin-Clear Travel. He has carved out a career as a celebrated fly fishing film maker for the last 15 years during which time he has travelled extensively in pursuit of the world's best fly fishing. Nick grew up in Australia and as such has always retained a strong connection with the land, in particular the wilds of Northern Australia and the numerous sportfish that abound in it’s remote waters. Nick is very excited about the prospect of bringing a hosted group to Albany Island, the combination of flats boat fishing and wading the offshore sand cays is a mouth-watering prospect for any lover of saltfly.

Itinarary

September 9, 2021 – Arrive at Horn Island, QLD Airport. An Albany Island Lodge representative will greet you at the airport and transfer guests via boat to settle in and enjoy some light refreshments at Albany Island. Settle in, gear up and get prepared for a great week ahead.

September 10-11-12-13 – Breakfast is typically served from 7.00am each day. The fishing boats aim to leave around 8.00am. Guests have the option to maximise fishing time by requesting a packed lunch. We aim to return to the lodge around 5pm. At the end of each day, kick back to a beverage and some snacks in the hammocks by the water. Dinner is served at the lodge each night.

September 14, 2021 – Breakfast will be served at the lodge then transfer to Horn Island for return flights.
